Tracks

When you register this year, please choose one of the following tracks:

Preschool Ministry – Janet Sales-Runnalls & Christi Whitford
  • Session A: Why Preschoolers?
A Biblical and developmental look at reasons why preschool ministry is important
  • Session B: The "How To" with Preschoolers
A hands on, practical discussion on how to communicate God's Word to little people
  • Session C: The Best and the Worst
Come prepared to share ideas, observations, and samples of things that have worked well for you and stories of when preschoolers just don't get it
Janet Sales-Runnalls is the Children's Pastor at McKenzie Towne Church. She is a mother, grandmother, and has taught Preschool for 15 years.
Christi Whitford is the Christian Education chair at Thornhill Baptist Church. She has two young children. Christi has her Early Childhood Development diploma and has taught Preschool for 5 years.
Children's Ministry – Cindy Martin
Cindy's heart and passion for children is reflected in her desire to see those who influence them better prepared themselves. New levels of joy and greater depth in teaching await those who are willing to take the intangibles of teaching and "put skin on them." In this track geared for those working specifically with children in Grades 1-6, plan to be challenged, changed, and cheered on as we interactively learn about God's design for our role as Kingdom influencers. With more than 20 years in Children's Ministry, Cindy draws on her experiences as a Sunday School teacher & superintendent, Pioneer Clubs and AWANA leader/director, VBS leader/director, storyteller, and Children's Feature specialist. In addition, Cindy has an undergraduate degree with a major in Children's Ministry.
Youth Ministry – Ryan Cook
There has been a holy frustration in youth ministry which is causing many leaders to thoroughly re-examine and reconstruct the youth program. How deep does the reconstruction go? To the Core. This track is a must if this is where you are at. Ryan Cook is the creator and director of a cutting edge leadership program called Compassionate Interns which raises up young leaders in all sectors of society through mentoring and equipping. Ryan is a young dynamic leader with wisdom beyond his years. Hear Ryan and his team's heart in building the local church by developing relevant, influential authentic young Christians leaders. He is on staff at Word of Life Church in Red Deer.
Leadership – Greg Grunau
The church is full of volunteers, and we work with many of them; many of us are volunteers ourselves. But do we intentionally develop our volunteers and lead them effectively? What is the primary role of someone who leads volunteers anyway? We will look at the Biblical foundation for equipping volunteers, and explore practical and spiritual ways to develop our volunteers and empower them to serve to their full potential. Greg Grunau is the Pastor of Connection Ministries at Centre Street Church. This includes overseeing the general volunteer process at CSC and training all staff on how to raise up and develop volunteers in ministry. He has also recently earned a Certificate in Volunteer Administration (CVA), a certification recognized throughout North America and other parts of the world in the non-profit sector.
Multi-Generational Ministry – Yvonne Kern (Facilitator)
Ministry is "under construction" these days in many churches as traditional models of ministry no longer appear to be working effectively. Families are becoming more and more fragmented. What can (should?) the church be doing in the midst of this fragmentation? What does it mean to minister to the "whole body" – the family of families that comprise the church? Explore various models and ideas through group interaction, brainstorming, and interview panels. Bring your questions and ideas as we grapple together with the question: what does effective ministry to people of all ages look like in the 21st century? Yvonne serves as the Pastor of Children's Ministries at Lifespring Community Church. She has been involved in all aspects of children's ministry for 35 years in small and mid-sized churches. Married, with a married son and two young adult daughters, Yvonne has an Education degree and has recently completed a Masters of Christian Studies degree at Regent College. Her on-going life passion is to see children come to know, love, and follow Jesus.
